Make a Donation in Charlotte & Make a Difference in the Lives of Others

Make a Donation CharlotteWhen you make a donation of used clothing and household items to National Kidney Services (NKS), your contribution will help the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) sustain programs for kidney disease awareness, education, patient advocacy, and early detection. NKF is a nonprofit health organization that has been named a Four-Star Charity by Charity Navigator. As a Charlotte area charity, NKS is proud to work with NKF so that the generosity of our local donors can benefit people throughout the nation.

Donating to charity is easy. Simply follow these steps to make a donation to NKS:

  • Look through your home or office for clothing, electronics, books, toys, small appliances, CDs, DVDs, small furniture, and decorative items that you no longer want.
  • Make an inventory of the items you’re donating and estimate each item’s value given its current condition. See our guidelines for suggested estimates, or for a fully detailed guide please refer to the IRS guidelines.
  • Contact NKS at 866-408-6464 or fill out our online form to find out when our free donation pick up service will be making donation collections in your neighborhood.
  • Pack your tax-deductible* donations in bags or boxes labeled with “NKS” and on the evening before your scheduled pick up, place your donated items outside in a dry place where they will be visible from the road.
  • Our professional drivers will leave a tax receipt when you donate clothes or whatever else you have to give, though please keep in mind that NKS does not estimate the value of your contributions.

NKS cannot accept large appliances, such as washers, dryers, and refrigerators, or large pieces of furniture, such as sofas, mattresses, dressers, and patio furniture. If you would prefer to make a donation dropoff, simply bring your items to any Value Village department thrift store in the Charlotte area, including locations in Gastonia, Kannapolis, and Mooresville.
